Community Impact:
Themes and Social Impact of Age of the OutlawAge of the Outlaw is a 15-part multimedia music and visual series that retells pivotal historical events from the perspective of ghosts, bringing lost or hidden stories to light. Each episode explores a different era, using music, cinematic storytelling, and immersive visuals to illuminate injustice, resilience, and human experience.
The series addresses a wide spectrum of social and cultural issues, including:
Queer love and LGBTQ+ experiences across history
Transgender issues and the ongoing fight for recognition and equality
Civil rights and systemic racism, tracing their impacts from past to present
Feminism and gender equity, examining how the culture of the witch trials continues to shape women’s confidence and societal expectations
The trauma of exploitative youth programs, including TTI and WWASP-style institutions, such as Provo Canyon School, which have systematically abused children — brought to light in recent years by survivors including Paris Hilton
The glamour and dark shadows of Hollywood, including the influence of cults and elite power structures
Historical trauma, such as the impact of WWI, fascism under Hitler, and societal oppression
By channeling these narratives through the voices of ghosts, Karma invites audiences to confront uncomfortable truths about American history, reflect on patterns of systemic injustice, and envision a future where these cycles are broken.
Committed to inclusivity and representation, Karma plans to hire LGBTQ+ and BIPOC actors, musicians, and collaborators for the series, ensuring they are paid fairly and have meaningful creative input. This approach not only enriches the project artistically but also creates opportunities for marginalized communities in the Portland arts scene.
Age of the Outlaw is both a haunting musical experience and a socially conscious exploration — blending genre-defying music, cinematic storytelling, and historical reflection to educate, inspire, and empower audiences.
